A: Why all the crossovers?

A: Click here
Long, but covers most of it, in as far as why I, the author MSG do that "crossover stuff".

Q: Why all the alterating spellings (misspellings) of various names and such?

A: Busy! Very busy!! Sometimes in the rush of it all (a LOT of the time in the rush of it all) botch the whole proofreading thing!! By the time I see it later on, I'm WAY past that point in the thread and am . . . too tired to redo it (a lot of times). Yeah, they say that what's worth doing is worth doing well (i.e. take time). Don't have TIME to take time. :)

Q: What is a Champion?

A: Basically, it's a person from the mortal realms that the Rules and Agents use to handle certain problems that, if They (Agents or Rules) went in directly in person and handled, would cause bad blood between the various Offices. Using Champions is more acceptable.

Becoming a Champion (generally) means that (besides becoming immortal) there are no more powers or abilities granted. That is, whatever abilities and powers they had before becoming Champions is all they have afterwards. Oh, the Champion can grow and change. They can learn new things and skills, but only in the manner that any other person would do it. That is, by time and effort.

Q: Now, why are those who become Champions immortal?

A: Basically speaking, the Rules and Agents rarely get the chance to recruit Champions because few people really *want* the job. That is, once it becomes clear (and the Rules and Agents make it crystal clear) that once their interviewers become Champions.....they will remain young and vital while those who aren't Champions....will age and die. The Champions will remain while places and people will change.....and go away.

Once faced with that reality, few people would take the job. Do you blame them?

Q: What are Rules and Agents?

A: Rules are the personification of an *entire* universe's order. Rules are in charge and empowered to look over the force of "order." Agents are Agents of Chaos, so basically they are the personification of Chaos in a universe..... This means many things, but it also means that Rules retards Entropy while Agents attempt to increase and promote it....in their respective universes. Both sides know that One needs the other....and that since they are evenly matched Entropy's march goes on at the same rate.

Q: Oh, what is Entropy?

A: Without going into a long, dry explanation, entropy is basically a system (any system....including a universe like *ours* in this case) seeks it's lowest energy point.

Example-A person who dies could very well be said to have finally succumbed to entropy for they've achieved their lowest energy point. Capish?

Q: What is this about "other" Offices? What's an Office?

A: Offices are a collection of Celestial Beings charged by some, as yet, unnamed Higher Power in overseeing the basic Forces of all Universes. The Office of Good (also known as the Army of Light by some) is handled by Celestial Beings called (for convenience sake) Angels. The Office of Evil (aka Army of Darkness) is handled by Beings called (named for convenience sake) Demons. Agents look after Chaos. Rules look after Order.

Until Recently (in something like in the past 10,000 year or so by some reckoning) only the Angels and Demons were not Automatons (drones). Why things exactly changed isn't exactly clear. It has something to do with the tampering done by the Demon's into the Forces that was the demesne of Agents and Rules. It has something to do with Forces that some ultra-powerful human mages of Atlantis started to meddle in. Net effect, however, was that the Powers that Be gave a select number of Rules and Agents the ability to make decisions (vice following directives blindly like machines)....as well as saddling them with things like "feelings" and all too human characteristics.

Q: Why are these Celestial Beings (Rules, Agents, Angels, and Demons) so.....human in character?

A: Well, in this story thread, in *this* one aspect of this story it's due to one simple fact. There are other mentalities. Other intelligence types. Other, nonhuman definitions of good and evil. However, in *this* story....the problem child of the Powers that Be are.....humans. So much so are they a problem that the Agents, Rules, and such have been given human characteristics so better to handle the problem.

:)

Q: Who are these "Higher Ups" that the Rules and others keep talking about?

A: Basically, as it appears, the "Higher Ups" are the Rules, Agents (and others) ultimate creator and (frankly) boss. Could be the traditional gods. Might be something else. No mere mortal knows for sure (yet) and the Rules and Agents ARE NOT going to tell.

Q: Why are those of the Military so.....er......hung up on honor.....so "Hardcore" as the Marines would call it?

A: Basically, their almost (some would drop "almost") fanatical view stems from their background. As stated earlier in the story, the Military hales from a group of worlds where it's basically a classic Cyberpunk setting. It's were no one can trust anyone. Where the large corporations have taken over and the world is dying not with a bang....but with a whimper. Basically, I wrote the Military finally as I did because.....one night....I'd read yet another Cyberpunk novel and was just tired of the whole thing. So, the Military was my answer to Cyberpunk....in a nutshell.
