Up the stairs Jacques goes. It leads to a cream carpeted hallway with
three doors and a window as well as another flight of stairs. The three
doors are closed. Presumably one of them is a bathroom door and the other
two are bedroom doors.
"That's odd," mutters Jacques. All seven houses on Loire are two stories tall and Jacques doesn't recall this house being any taller than the other six. He glances out the window and he sees Gerald, Rosie and their dog, Scottie standing outside their house. Rosie is petting Scottie. He also sees his sons Jean and Paul playing catch just in front of his own home. "How did they suddenly reappear?" exclaims Jacques. "No one was home a minute ago." Now that Jacques has seen four familiar faces (five if you include the dog's face), he was glad that someone has shown up and he now has someone to talk to. Jacques rushes down the stairs to greet them. Out of the seventh house he goes and he sees... no one. He stops briefly wondering how they disappeared so quickly. Next, Jacques rushes home and knocks on the door. "Hello Honey. Hey Jean and Paul, I am back." No answer. "That's bizarre!" mutters Jacques. "I swear that I saw Jean and Paul out the window. It can't be my imagination." Jacques decides to check Gerald and Rosie's house and he rings the doorbell. No answer. After not finding anyone at his own home, he was not surprised that Gerald and Rosie didn't materialize. Realizing that the seventh house has something to do with the entire mystery, he reenters the seventh house and heads up the stair. And he looks out the window expecting to see Jean, Paul, Gerald and Rosie. He doesn't see anyone this time. He scratches his head. "What is going on?" he shouts. What does Jacques do next?
