Having no success here, the worried Jacques runs over to Gerald Maxwell's
home, one of his neighbours. Maxwell ran a small deep sea fishing
business. Jacques notes that Maxwell's fishing vessel wasn't tied up at
his dock, adding to Jacques' worries. He rings the doorbell. Maxwell was married to Rosalind - who hated the name and so would only answer to Rosie. If Maxwell was on one of his trips, Rosie would answer the door. However, on this occasion she didn't. Jacques waits a respectable amount of time before ringing again. He waits, but there is still nothing. Not even the frenetic yapping of the Maxwell's dog. He was a West Highland terrier imaginatively named Scottie. Jacques tries the door. It was locked. He goes around the back, noting that the windows appeared to be intact. Checking the back door, he was startled to find that it was unlocked. After a short internal debate he decides to enter the house to see if he can find any clue to the whereabouts of Rosie and Scottie. The door creaks slightly as he opens it wider and prepares to enter. Seeing that the house was apparently deserted, he half-expected the kitchen area to be in a bit of a state. He was surprised to find the opposite were true. The kitchen looking like it belonged in a showroom. This was further evidenced by the strange feeling Jacques had. To him, it seemed that the kitchen had the air of never having been used at all; as if the house had not long been built and was awaiting its first owner.
