Yes, Jacques remembers the story of Marie Celeste. In fact, that is
one of his tales as a storyteller that he tell his guests.
True, Jacques does not know what really happens, in fact no one really knows. But the Marie Celeste, a two mast sailing vessel, has a rich history, some of them fact, the rest fiction and Jacques himself does not know which part is fact and which part is fiction. The vessel was partially owned by Captain Benjamin Spooner Briggs - and he was not the original owner. In fact there are strange tales with this vessel before Briggs acquired the vessel. As the story goes, Briggs, his wife, Sarah and his 2 year old daughter, Sophia Matilda sailed with a crew of seven from New York on November 7th, 1872, loaded with 1701 barrels of American Alcohol which is used to fortify wine. It was last seen on November 15th by the vessel Dei Gratia. And it was found abandoned on December 5th half way between the Azores and the Portuguese coast by the same vessel, Dei Gratia. Jacques told his guests that the dining area was found with half-eaten food and it was believed that the captain gave the order to abandon ship before the meal was finished. The lifeboat containing the 10 known members of the party was not found. He glances at the dining room table once again and snaps back to the present. What is this dining room doing here, with half eaten food and the kitchen looks like it has never been used at all?
