CHAPTER ONE: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Permanent Resident?

A Permanent Resident has had their reality bound to the Tower. What this means is that effectively you will always end up back in the Staircase Room. More details about this are in Chapter Three: Permanent Residency and You.

Does being a Permanent Resident mean I am immortal?

To a degree, yes. You will always return to the Tower. This does not mean that you have broad cosmic powers, unless it does temporarily. Also, you are usually not immune to pain. More on this in Chapter Two: Chaos Focal Points, An Honest Perspective.

Where does the Staircase go?

Everywhere and Nowhere! The Tower intersects all known realities, and a number of unknown ones as well. There are a few places that are always there (except when they aren't) but other than that you never know what you will find. Feel free to explore!

What are the known areas that are always there on the Staircase?

Jerry Seinfeld lives three floors up. A girl named Krissy lives four floors up. Please keep in mind that when you reach a floor only the door right there at staircase level keeps you on the staircase. Moving horizontally on any floor (except in the rooms at staircase level) means that you will be traveling in that reality and will have no immediate staircase re-access. Part of the fun is finding your way back! Option Two: just wait, and the Staircase Room will find YOU.

The Multiversal Mall is accessible by the Tower Elevator that is accessible at the rear of the Staircase Room Library and also scattered throughout the staircase. Also accessible are the Starbucks at the End of the Multiverse and the Interdimensional Highway (also known as Horsehockey or the Wide Variance of the Tower). Please note that if you end up in Horsehockey the Staircase Room may not find you for a long time. But the highway will.

What rooms are there in the Staircase Room floor?

The Staircase Room is a Chaos Nexus. It changes all the time. 99% of the time you will have the main room, the Staircase, a full bathroom, the Window (although what it faces may change), the Kitchen, the Suicide Booth, the Library. Other common rooms are the Staircase Taco Bell, three bedrooms, two master bathrooms, the Staircase Ice Skating Rink and a basement whose contents change from time to time. However, there are an infinite variety of rooms that may or may not exist at every time. Don't try to figure it out, just explore when you can. And, if you go to bed in the bedroom and wake up on a Teal couch and the bedroom is gone, its just Thursday.

Why has weird stuff started happening when I am around? Why do I have the inclination to stab things and/or eat many pounds of other people's cheese?

Read chapter two. Sorry about that. Its a fact of life.

Any last minute tips?

Absolutely. Do not go through silver doors, do not eat cashews, do not press little white buttons, do not pull strange ropes, tie your shoes before going down the stairs, run from children dressed in Victorian clothing, and be careful when dealing with Authors and Important Individuals.

Who are Authors and Important Individuals?

This is by no means a complete list, but Authors are individuals with broad powers. Some of them even have vaguely defined cosmic powers. Important Individuals share the Tower with you, and should not be crossed if you can avoid it.

Authors: Lord Reaibn Daenorth, Lots42, Ben, The Living End, Mr Qrygg, Dan Danger, Sir Seeker. There are more authors, but these are the ones you are most likely to encounter.

Important Individuals: Sir Josh, Lord Fred, Lady Astra, Minestus, Belboz. There are many more, this is just a sampling. Now, sometimes these individuals may interact with you willingly, perhaps even come here for a while. However, they will eventually leave for their area of the Tower.

Is there a way out?

Have fun looking! (no)

  1. Scott moves on to read Chapter Two: Chaos Focal Points, An Honest Perspective
  2. Scott and Josh do interpretive dance, expressing their emotions at learning of their new home.
  3. Lots, Reaibn, and Ben show up for the welcoming party. Lord Fred shows up late, but at least he brought punch.
  4. Screw all those options! let's watch an episode of Staircase Room, the made-for-tv Sitcom premiering on Fox!
