"I suppose the clinching argument is that the door looks far too solid to

anyway," Fred conceded. "Indeed. What puzzles me is how anything could
have managed to
get in to attack him, for one would have expected all the doors to be the
same. Oh
well, it's no
use worrying about that now. Let us just hope that the gnome has gone to
whatever
his race's idea of Heaven is."
So Fred, Astra and Velus went along the passage, until it forked. They took the left branch, as they had been told. Then they took the second side-tunnel on the left. "Another mile or so until the dragon's lair, according to the gnome," Fred said. "Yes. However, either we have gone wrong somewhere, or the gnome forgot something, for I can see that just ahead of us the tunnel forks again. So, what do you want to do?" "Well, we've always gone to the left so far, so we may as well do the same again." "Very well," said Astra, and so they took the left fork.
