Fred just looked stonily at the dragon – so that's how it was going
to be.
The dragon looked at Fred what he thought was an amused expression. If it
had flexible lips it's grin would probably reach it's ears. If it had ears
that is. The dragon did have some sense of fair play then. Or maybe it just wanted to play with him. Those claws and teeth were pretty deadly on their own. Regardless of which, Fred still didn't see he had much choice other than to accept the duel.
The arena was a large circular room, big enough to hold a ball and high enough to let the dragon use the advantage of it's wings and fly around freely. There was a balcony about ten feet up on the wall, stretching around the whole room. It was filled with spectators cheering for the dragon. Most of them seamed to be human but there were some goblins and a few trolls too. Astra and Velus had seats of honour at the front, closely guarded. They both looked worn from their torture, but mainly unhurt. At least as far as Fred could see from the floor. Fred stopped scanning the room and looked directly at the dragon. It still had that expression which Fred thought of as amused. One of the dragons' guards stood between them. He raised his arms and shouted, "Let the fight begin," and ran out of the arena, closing and locking the door behind him.
