Fred felt fear in the pit of his stomach. He was rather afraid of the
Dragon. [ref: 399] But he had to keep fighting. He had to accomplish
his quest. So he fought onward. The Dragon lifted up his claw, Fred raised his shield and valiantly stabbed at it... And the Dragon disappeared into nothingness. The ruby that held the beautiful maiden was once more in its place. The Dragon must have been an illusion, a test of the courage of any potential rescuers of the maiden. The ruby started to glow with a strange light, and the maiden woke up and stepped out of the ruby. She was the most beautiful woman Fred had ever seen. Her features were perfectly beautiful like a statue, her eyes were shining blue, her raven hair flowed down to her waist, her body was very well-porportioned. She smiled at him kindly. "Thank you for rescuing me," she said. "Who are you?" "Uh...uh...uh...hi. I'm Fred," said Fred. Why do I always have to make such a fool of myself in front of beautiful women? Fred thought. "Uh...who are you?" "I am Adele the sorceress, daughter of Belboz the Necromancer," said the woman. "I suppose you're here to defeat the Dragon. I could probably help you greatly." This shocked Fred to the core of his being. Fred had always avoided magicians, ever since his brother had died of a magical fire all those years ago. [ref:397] He didn't really trust Belboz, and was suspicious of his advice. He always stayed away from magic users whenver he could. But now he found that the woman that he had fallen in love with the moment he had seen her was a sorceress. He didn't know what to make of her. This sorceress couldn't be any different from the others...could she? What would Fred do?
