Gracht Tuebklle

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 23303

Eventually Fred and Velus came to a nexus of underground passageways. "Oh great... more caverns!" said Fred in disgust. He looked at his map, the one with only one entranceway marked. It had been printed showing many underground paths, all of which in one fashion or another led to the Dragon's lair. But so far this whole expedition was fruitless. He chalked the wall of the cavern and followed the path in front of him. Soon he and the dog-boy came to a deadend. The shaft was left unfinished, support beams only partially placed into the earth.

Fred was about to turn around when he smelled a strange odor. He looked about and saw a black bile upon the ground. perhaps this is a blocked passage leading directly to the Dragon! thought Fred. He approached the wall, carefully avoiding the bile, not sure if it was acidic or not. He began raking the wall to see if the soil was loose. Then he stopped for Velus was barking up a storm. Upon looking down at the dog he also saw that the black bile was moving! While Fred was concentrating on the wall, it had oozed its way towards him, onto his armored feet and was now coalescing up his armor!

Fred spun around, he lashed at the liquid, but to no avail. The bile found the chinks in his armor and entered therein, touching his clothing underneath, then his skin. Fred could feel it crawling up towards his chest, his neck, his head. He began whirling about, trying to take off his armor, he began screaming as this unknown horror found its way to his face! It entered into his ears, into his nostrils, into his eyes! Whithin moments Fred was dead! But Fred's body continued to live.

Space, the final frontier. Some think of the outer reaches of the cosmos as a place to find new civilizations, to meet new friends. Others know the truth of the matter. The Shreken has been known for ages to be the dwelling place of all sorts of monsters, the most infamous being the Dragon. But within the subterannean labyrinth which held the Southern Caves as only one of its entry-gates, there were places that even the Dragon feared to traverse.

In ages past a glittering beacon from the skies had crahsed into the Shreken, the force of its journey pushing the craft deep into the bottomless pits. From within that ship emerged a life most loathsome, an entity with no resemblance to anything on the planet. It traveled slowly but it was patient. Occasionally it would take one or another of the mountain's inhabitants as a body, or as food, and so in time it reached these upper levels. It could not keep the bodies for long, however, and so it always left the dessicated corpse and traveled in its true form. It was to the orcs that lived within this place known as the Gracht Tuebklle, the Black Scourge. It was the monster that now inhabited the still-living body of the one known as Lord Fred. The alien not only digested the living essence of its prey, it also digested its mind. The alien knew all that Fred had known, it knew of his understanding of the Dragon, it knew of his mission, it knew of the Great Kingdom, it knew of the multitude of men and women who made the land come alive in its myriad of ways. It knew where to find food.

  1. The alien begins to retrace Fred's steps in order to leave this prison of a mountain...
  2. Velus isn't sure what the hell just happened, but the black stuff is gone and Fred stopped screaming, so it must be OK...
