A Cry in the Night

Elashi stared into the gloom. The light from the full moon cast a soft
light upon the scene before her but it was still
not easy to see the thing that had darted behind the rocks on the shore.
All that she could make out clearly were the
two pin pricks of light shining off the creature's eyes. For a long time
nothing happened. Elashi stared at the
creature and the creature stared back at Elashi.
Finally, her curiousity overcame her caution and she slowly and carefully slipped off the boat and walked up the shore. She had guessed that the creature would run off but it did not. Whatever it was, Elashi thought to herself, it didn't spook easy. Nervously gripping her staff Elashi moved even closer to the thing hiding behind the rocks. Most of it was hidden from her view but this close to it she could see that it had a dark greenish skin. And it's head was more like a man's then a animal's. But of its face all she could see in the darkness was its bright eyes.
A cry suddenly broke the silence of the night and the three adventurers sleeping in the boat jumped to their feet. Startled from their sleep, confused in the darkness, they at first did not understand what was going on. And then they heard the cry again. "Elashi!" Val shouted and scrambled up top. But there was no sign of her. "Look!" Fredric exclaimed, pointing down onto the beach. A line of footprints in the soft sand could be clearly seen in the moonlight. The threesome followed those footprints to the cluster of nearby rocks but the shadows there were too thick to reveal much else. "I need a torch!" Val snarled. From behind him Chuc raised his arms and murmured an incantation, "Shurov Thariel." Suddenly the small area about them was bathed in a bright, noon day light.
