The night was deepening as shadows replaced the last evanescent rays of
the sun as she sank below the western horizon. The four adventurers knew
that if they planned on switching the location of their campsite, they'd
have to be quick about. There was no telling what the night could bring in
a remote place like this, where wild things may lurk and the terrain was
treacherous. "I say we make for that forest between those two ranges. The path there looks safe enough and there will be plenty of firewood, we might even be able to come across some food in the morning..." Val shook his head even as Fredrik said this, "I disagree." He turned his gaze towards the shores, "Our ship is in a safe harbor not more than a league to the east, that is where we will go tonight."Fredric sighed. He had spent too many months confined within the timbers of that ship to desire another night there, love her though he may. Val noticed Fredric's dissatisfaction. "Don't worry, Fredric." He assured him, "Tomorrow we will further investigate the cairn and the forest. It will be a much safer venture in the daylight."Chuc agreed, "We know there is potent magical energy on this island, that is for sure. I think it would be wise to return to the safety of our trusty vessel..." "You know, Chuc..." Val broke in, "We've already made an amazing discovery...and I take it as a good omen. I am sorry if the austere words that I made earlier where overly harsh, it is just that the saftey and well-being of everyone of you is in my charge. We are likely to encounter some form of danger while we are on this island...I'm just just trying to minimilize our chances of encountering it. If we use our heads, we will return to Shara as heroes. And wealthy ones at that!"Chuc was solemn in his reply "Know this, Val; this wont be the first time I'll be completely stumped on our little expedition. I am a worthy mage in my own right, but these runes and this cairn are like nothing I have ever seen! They are old, give Fredric and I some time and mayhaps we will decipher them. But things like this take some time..." They gathered their things as quickly as they could and departed from the strange cairn. By the time they reached the small, secluded harbor where their boat was anchored the land was shrouded in absolute darkness, the moon being absent from the starry sky. As the others retired to their beds within the ship, Elashi prepared to finish out her watch. She paced the deck, her thoughts drifting away with the calm current that swayed the ship to and fro. The hypnotic rhythm of the Arin and the gentle sound of the boat's rocking motion along with the chiming of the exotic insects, in melody with the water, soon had her dozing off...She awoke with a start. A full moon was rising in the east and it's eerie light filled the landscape with a kind of magical energy...it seemed to her...a shadow suddenly shot across the shore, towards a clustering of rocks. Elashi sprang to her feet and drew her weapon. Two tiny points of yellow light appeared just behind the rocks where the shadow had bolted so quickly...
