Lord Fred knew some strong magicks were at work, but he would not let this
strange mage break his mind nor his will. He was used to the effects of
magic, having slain a lichelord and several evil necromancers in his short
yet famed career in southern Allaria. But it was taking every ounce of
will power and strength that he possesed. The glowing gem began to glow even brighter, too bright to even look at. Fred began to tremble as a shooting pain went from his head to his toes, paralyzing him. After a few agonizing moments he managed to say "Who I am and what I do is not the concern of shady bastards, such as yourself..." But everything went black. When he awoke, Fred found himself on the floor with the innkeeper and Alfredo standing over him. They helped Fred to his feet."That was close, sire. I had a bad feeling when you said you wanted to be alone for awhile. Many strange doings have been going on as of late. Your missing companions, I fear, have been captured by a very powerful enemy. And whoever this stranger was, I fear he has some great item of power." Fred rubbed his sore head. "Yes, it is a gem. It nearly overwhelmed my mind and broke it. But I hung on by a thread. I thought he was going to kill me. I was paralyzed by it's power."A grim look came over the old rangers face. "We best take your companion's belonging and make for my home. I do not think the village proper is safe for you now." The innkeeper shook his head as the two departed the Boar's Head. "No more monkey business in the inn, at least." He muttered to himself as he went back to his duties.As the two approached the ranger's home, they were confronted by a group of allarian soldiers, about 10 in all. The captain took a foot forward and spoke. "Lord Frederigo D'Honaire! You are under arrest by order of his majesty, King Emry! Put down any arms you carry or death will take both of you with swift wings!"
