Fred felt that he had to clear up something with the stranger. He wasn't
sure why, but he felt that he had to speak with him. The corridor on the upper floor was now empty, but somehow he knew which room the stranger was in. He opened the door and saw the man sitting on a wooden chair. He was staring intently at a small glowing jewel which lay in his open hand. When he looked up at Fred the glow faded, and Fred suddenly wondered why he had come here. "Ah, there you are," said the man, "Let's see if you're more willing to talk now." He held up the gem between his thumb and index finger, and it started to glow again. Fred now felt an urgent need to help this man with whatever he needed to know. "Now tell me; who are you and what are you doing here?"
