Escape Attempt

"Caravan?" Hannah asked.

"Yes. I didn't use a coach, but borrowed a horse-drawn caravan instead, as I knew that decent inns on the journey where I could stay at night would be few and far between. I was planing to spend tonight in it as well, as there are too many guests for everyone to have a bedchamber, and many of the guests outrank me so take priority. Luckily, by making a slight detour there was a decent enough road all the way to make using a caravan possible."

"Won't it arouse suspicion if your caravan is seen leaving the ball so early?" Katrina asked.

"Fortunately where I am parked is on the other side of a small wood and so is out of sight from the castle. If we can walk there without being spotted, with any luck we will be well away before you are missed. It will be rather crowded inside with so many of us, but I'm sure that we'll manage. We'll take a more round-about route than I took coming, even though it will make the journey longer. That way if Jane launches a pursuit once she realises you have gone, with any luck they won't find us."

1. They succeed in getting away undetected.
2. Someone spots them walking from the garden to the caravan.
3. Unfortunately they are missed before they have gone even a mile from the castle.
