For a long moment the sisters were all stunned to the point of open-mouthedness that they had been believed. Fred's sister had always been a sweet thing but also fiendishly clever, and this didn't seem the sort of thing she'd normally be able to swallow so quickly, even given the compelling evidence they had presented.

"Endurin has been having such terrible nightmares that something had happened to you, though none of them were specific," Mira went on, referencing a family friend of the D'Honaires who was a novice sorcerer. "I refused to believe him though, and I am sorry for that. Please tell me, what can I do to help?"

"Mira, it's ever so hard to think like this," confessed Isabella. "Do you think you could try to come up with a plan? We are worn and fractured and you have always been cleverer than me."

The switching pronouns were confusing and the entire situation was unwelcome, but Mira smiled, sensing a bit of her big brother in the young woman. "Well," she said,

  1. "I suppose, if you hide me in the castle during the ball, I could try to sneak you out in the night"
  2. "I suppose we could try to sneak to my caravan right now"
  3. "I actually have a magical item that may prove useful"
  4. "I think it would be best for me to return home and come back with reinforcements"
