This warlock is no all-powerful sorcerer, and though he is reasonably talented with magic, he is bitter that he is not more so. All the successful hunts that resulted in potion ingredients being acquired from the bodies of magical creatures grew to be too much for him to bear. He put a sleeping spell on Cordana, and negated all special abilities that Zenobia has given her to increase the quality of her hunting—boosted strength and speed, flight, a hyper-powerful sense of smell, barbed claws. Now, precisely twelve hours later, the hound wakes up well-rested but still very bleary, on a magic carpet zipping through the air far away from her home.
