A few weeks pass, and Cordana begins to learn the ropes. Zenobia feeds her pellets twice a day, which are by no means tasty. But after the first hunt (which Zenobia turns out to really enjoy—go figure), Zenobia gives her a piece of their kill, and it's delicious. It makes Cordana start to really feel like a dog. She's not sure whether that's a good thing, but she enjoys it while it's happening, so she resolves to take it as such. She never realizes just how dog-like she's becoming, because it's a gradual thing. Sure, she knows she's slowly getting used to this lifestyle, and now automatically barks in happiness when Zenobia scratches her behind the ear, and chases whatever Zenobia throws. But after several months, maybe a year, Cordana is truly a hound. She still retains all memories of her humanity, but her mind is that of a dog—simple, and completely loyal. So the memories really don't mean much. Months turn into years, which she spends hunting, eating, sleeping, and panting happily. Zenobia actually treats her rather well, and doesn't use magic on her unless she misbehaves. Every night, Cordana sleeps with her favourite chew toy that Zenobia has given her: a flimsy brown shoe with no partner. Four years into her status as the hunting dog of a witch...
