In Which Cordana Becomes Pruvyre

The carpet flies for so long that Cordana falls asleep again while riding it. She wakes up to sudden stillness, and finds that she has landed. Not only landed, but been placed in a large pen. She immediately goes to jump over the fence, which doesn't seem too high, but finds that just as she's readying herself to push off the ground, she loses the will to move. She doesn't make the connection, but she is being kept in by a magical barrier more than a physical one. One other dog is in the pen with her, a male, with long black and white fur and a fluffy tail. She goes over to investigate, but just as she reaches him, a man appears outside the fence. "Welcome, Pruvyre," the man says, and Cordana quickly realizes he is speaking to her. "I know what I'm saying probably doesn't mean anything to you, but my name is Xanven, and I am a sorcerer. I don't know how Zenobia has been treating you, but I promise you will enjoy it here. Your companion is called Tito. There are many more dogs here, but Tito is the most welcoming towards newcomers." Something about the sorcerer's voice is very calming to Cordana—or Pruvyre, she supposes—and she takes an instant liking to him. She goes over, wagging her tail, to lick his hand, and he lets her. Pruvyre forgets about Zenobia overnight, and gets along very well with Tito and the other dogs. Group hunts are great fun, and if she could remember her hunting experiences with Zenobia she would probably wish she had had other dogs to hunt with. She is, however, out of commission after only a couple of hunts, because she is expecting Tito's litter. After one month...
