"But the explanation will wait for later," Reika continues. "It
is . . .kind of involved."
Honestly, she had only been introduced to the techniques involved in it
recently herself. Fortunately, Eve doesn't press her for answers and for
that Reika's happy!
Reika
Finally! We seem to have caught something of a break here and are now
just about ready to get out of these wretched caverns!
Not to say that our time down here has been all a waste, looking for
the best exit rout. We saw some thing of beauty. Some things that awed
and humbled us.
. . .
Some things that befuddled us to no ends. Or they would if we hadn't
paid more attention on getting the #@$% out of here vice exploring!! Oh,
not to say that my sister and Lilith didn't look like they were not
interested in what they saw (I do recall that in one fashion or another
they had the memories of scientists and probably had the inclinations of
scientist in their blood). However, they know how to priortitize. Guess
that came from the time when they called . . .er . . .when they just
thought of themselves as the "First Child".
Speaking from experience, I kind of know what I am speaking about
here. Granted, my priorities (and their back then) had all been out of
whack. What with "Follow Supreme Commander Ikari's orders first and
everything else is secondary" giving you an idea, but I had been able to
prioritize around that, let me tell you!!
God am I glad I'm out of that mindset and . . .
Hrmph, anyway....
Leave first. Get Rei-chan and Tabris to safety and maybe LATER go and
explore!!
"Rei-chan! Tabris, come on over now!" Rei orders, bringing forth her
and the others who'd been holding back a bit, in the shadows of this dank
lair.
Of course, the sight of a child in their midst draws all sorts
of outraged protests from the men who’d been so very eager
to “help” us earlier.
. . .
Heh, like I might be still somewhat naive in the way of things but I
know well enough that kind of “help” would entail a “payment” later by us
that --while I am not sure what it entails--I would not like at all! They
seem . . . Uncouth. Uncouth in a manner which my little forays into
researching (unsuccessfully) into the foibles of my fellow classmates
which would be . ..unpleasant.
And to see them get up on their hind legs in righteous outrage is
something I just cannot help but roll my eyes at here! They are upset
that we would dare bring a young girl down in such a dangerous place. A
place like this is no place for little children.
There is an air of unreality to this situation.
Rei
I don’t like idiots, would be rapists, and bad nicknames in general.
It . . .just annoys me for some reason. Some odd personality quirks I
picked up along the way while growing a bit while being a companion to
Fred Takahashi.
All that is coming back right now and I am SO very annoyed right now!
MUST not kill. Must not kill. Must not even make snide comments.
GOD, after so long being the quiet, stoic girl I find it so hard to
control my tongue in situation like this!!
“The very IDEA of taking a little girl along with you while dungeon
crawling is-is . . .,” the bigger thug sputters. He then blinks again,
alarmed at the sight of Junior (the dragon hatchling) in Rei-chan’s arms.
I really hope we come up with some kind of better name than ‘Rei-chan’
and ‘Junior’ here soon. ‘Chan’ is a term of endearment (sort of) in
Japanese and ‘Junior’ is . . .
W-wwell, it’ll do for now. Just wish that we’d came up with something
better than that, I am just saying. I mean ‘Rei-chan’ is what Ritsuko
Akagi called me when we first met and . . .while I am no longer
traumatized by what eventually fell me in my first incarnation I can’t
help but wince a little at the reminder.
“She and her sister were teleported here and we’re trying to get them
out,” I interrupt before these idiots can do anything MORE to put my
nerves on edge. They’ve been most . . .troublesome. More so than what I
would usually find them, being that I’ve been trying to keep up a
pleasant seeming for Rei-chan back there.
I didn’t like the look in these males eyes before I got them to back
off...
It is not that I believe that my new cousins (Rei-chan and Junior)
should forever be protected from life’s ugly realities. It’s just that
SOME ugly realities I would rather hold at bay for a while yet. Let them
be children a bit longer than what I got to be (no small thanks to
Gendo and the Angel War).
Could have just gone and fireballed these idiots, but that would have
BEEN most ugly for such young eyes. Besides, good guys don’t do things
like that so . . .
Uh, enough of this angst stuff. WE’VE got things to do and see here!
“One of them needs some magical attention . . . .transformed you note I
am sure?” I say in as pleasant of voice as I can manage, keeping up
appearances for the children’s sake. “Do pardon us if we don’t stay and
chat. Got little brothers to untransformed, little girls to rescue, and
very ticked off dragonesses to avoid and all that. Sure you understand!”
Turning slightly away (keeping an eye on the thugs but concentrating
more on my party) I call back to Akagi the elfin woma, letting her know
the command words (and basic operations) of the magic carpet I had
her unpack here.
Don’t care for carpet flying myself. Got wings and love using them but
it’s a handy magic item to use for those who cannot fly under their OWN
power, eh?
“Huh? The cursed dragon is dead, woman!” Scarface (or whatever
his name is) protests angrily. “Lord Fred killed the beast himself!”
“But the ‘beast’ had a mate . . .,” the amber eyed woman corrects the
leader of the looters sternly, dropping the polite/nice tone she’d been
keeping up to this point. “Do me and your men a favor and don’t be like
Velus the dogboy, Whitehand! Get OUT of here and pass the warning on to
people who can handle her, for the love of all that’s holy! Don’t fight a
battle you have NO hope on winning.”
Yes, if you hadn’t already guessed Rei was familiar enough with
descriptions of the Whitehand from various members of her clan to guess
what the heraldry symbols on the looters uniform outfits meant. Velus,
having worn similar (if not as nice) outfitting as these people wore
pretty much clued her into him being part of their organization, anyway.
But that all said, Rei and the others lift off (leaving the gaping looters
in the dust) as they take flight out of the caverns through the entrance
usually only accessible to the former owner’s winged abilities...
“And out and free!” Rei sighs, delighted to be finally free and clear of
the oppression the caverns gave off.
She has grown to rather LIKE flying, you know. Feeling the wind through
her hair (and wings) as it were. She smiles as she sees that her sisters
also are enjoying it as well!!

But then we notice something of a distubance below as we fly overhead...
