Brigadier, Meet the Brigadier

Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart

"Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart!" I respond crisply. "Retired." Hmm, why is it that actually saying that last word still gives me a bit of a pang?

"Hmph." The woman looks unimpressed, and I must admit, I bristle at little at her attitude. In my day, we showed a little respect for our fellow officers...

Oh, god, I'm starting to sound old.

"And you are...?"

"Brigadier Bambera."

Ah, yes. Bambera, the current head of the UK division of UNIT. I've heard of her, but we've never had the chance to meet. Word has it that she's a good officer, despite her attitude, so I loosen up a little and even manage a smile. Not actually too difficult, that. The Doctor's appearance always heralds something in the way of action, and I find that I'm really quite looking forward to it. Whatever "it" might be.

"And these people?" she says, indicating the Doctor and his group.

"Er, well, yes, that might be a little more difficult to explain..." I find suddenly that I can't manage to stop smiling, and I hide my expression behind my hand with an embarrassed cough.
