So with the Doctor Who story (Part 2)....

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 20779

Wind obviously knocked out of her from her fall, she groans (shaking her head a bit as if a bit dizzy) and then looks up and blinks at me and my wife.

Ace

"Umph," I grunt, still a bit scrambled from that rather rough ride!

Blast it, I had just gotten done with one adventure (re: 20422)! That Zerm fellow (creepy chap) had teleported us back home. I and the Professor (er...my "Doctor") had been discussing a shared feeling that while friendly and helpful enough, those Others had been keeping something to themselves all the while. Something about either myself, "my" Doctor, or something of combination of both.

God knows that what little they did tell of us and where they came from was enough to make my head spin!

Then....

Another blasted Timestorm from out of the blue and whallop! Here I am crushing somebodies prized flowers or something! Oh, and let us not mention the vision of blue, walking plant women sending out a garbled distress call to me. Something about dark distress and a dire predicament that only begins at some lake here on this world. It'll be a trail that will lead to...er..."other worlds than this...." in that dream fragment I do recall.

Very fuzzy looking back. Sorry.

I recognize this fellow before me (or I at least hope I do). I know (though I don't know how) that I've slipped back to the very world I had just left (Dr. What's Earth)...only decades later. Point in fact, by their calender it's a few years beyond what the last Timestorm swept me away from so long ago (it seems).

Well, with a small hope (him being the only one I know of who'd be able to contact that other Doctor so he can take me back to my home reality), I ask him if he is Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and if he had (or still has) a "scientific advisor" named the Doctor.

Still, is the splitting image of that fellow I saw from that Convention back in Washington DC at that Dr. Who stand....

Starting, he answers a bit warily (after looking around to make sure that nobody else had seen me pop in I guess).

One thing leads to another, I fear. First, mentioning the Doctor did the trick (the Brig mutters something about that Timelord always attracting trouble) and I spend the next hour or so in a waiting room while the Brig pulls a few strings to get his hands on a "time/space telegraph".

That and wishing under his breath that he could have actually gone to that Wedding invitation instead of being forced due to necessity to bow out for other business.

Will find out later there had been a death in the family or such and so...

Well, the present was nice, I'll find out. Understand totally why the Brig hadn't gone...

That aside.....it means that he's going to be rather surprised by Inquirer, I bet!

Well, it seems that he got in contact with the Doctor (I get a strange "vibe" as the Yanks call it that it's "Inquirer's" Doctor he unknowingly spoke to).

.....

Odd, got a shiver there. That and for the life of me I don't know how I know....that...

Mayhaps whilst I was sliding through that Timestorm the Vision provided that info and it got unscrambled enough and came forth?

Maybe.

Then, however, when I hear him mutter about a rather odd chap named "Roland" having answered first (and typing out replies as if he was speaking into a telephone instead of using a telegraph)....

Well, later I shall find out that the Doctor did a bit of mods to the TARDIS's telephone and hooked it up so a body can speak into it instead of just tapping away....

No, keep to the story format and just that Ace! Too confusing any other way....

One thing at a time, Ace.

No, after this "Roland" says he'll relay the message (and "crying his pardon" to pause to aid with some kind of "domestic disturbance" with somebody named Joan) he gets the Doctor and then is getting back into uniform and back into service for a bit.

Chap was retired, I see.

As it will happen events here will follow very closely the script for the episode Battlefield by Ben Aaronovitch (the first episode as seen on 6th September 1989 by the BBC). That is, all the other "players" will have basically follow the script except for the Brigadier Lethbridge- Stewart's party and the Doctor's party. The real departure begins when the TARDIS touches down and they all meet together (non-human's in human magical disguise) on a road near a lake....

Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart waves down another Brigadier, who hadn't as yet been informed of the other officer's early arrival....

Their jeep is moving down the road; Brigadier Bambera and a UNIT s oldier sit inside. "Salamander 6 0. This is seabird." Brigadier Bambera says into her radio, "Are you receiving me, over."

The soldier notices the Doctor and the others standing patiently by the side of the road. The helicopter that Ace arrived in with her travel companion really rather stands out like a sore thumb here (while the blue police box does not for some reason).

The soldier calls attention his passenger's attention to the hitchhikers and gets ordered in no uncertain terms to pull over next to them!

  1. "What the devil are you doing here?" she asks her peer, "And who the devil are these others with you?!"
