Using a Crossover to Your Advantage

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 35092

Annafrid

Yep, it seems that Jadis had landed herself in the "looney bin", to be non-PC about it...

Being that our choices are rather limited, it actually makes our next move easy enough. Here, let me explain to make it clearer.

Now, we didn't really need to go and be nice about this business with Winifred. Could have gone and just overpowered her and let all these other folk's problems go hang. Wouldn't have been in keeping with our character, but I would have bet good money that we could have snatched Winifred away successfully. Would have meant spilt blood, but we probably could have done it. However, we are who we are AND these folks do have a VERY serious problem.

Being that we had no real desire to play "hitman" for the sake of political convenience and such (the last Quest with Angar was different), we just weren't going to go out and do it the easy way with Jadis. No, the D'Honaires don't do things like that, and we made sure to remind Winifred (who's a D'Honaire, by the way) of that. What she was asking for, while probably in her eyes it might have been the best thing, it wasn't the honorable thing. Being the way things seem to work in this land of Narnia, such tatics probably would have come back to haunt us all later on anyway. Haunt us all in a disasterous way....

No, best compromise was to go and retrieve Jadis back to Narnia and then have it out with her (one of our mages, one on one perhaps) in a trial by combat. Not exactly the most expedient rout, but it'll satisfy our sense of honor.

Now, how to get there to where Jadis is? Well, that choice is rather easy, really. Can't call upon the Doctor's TARDIS because until we return from this Quest we're on our own resources. That also means, naturally, that Dr. Vincent's transporter is out of the question as well. That leave the wardrobe portal that seems to somehow have gotten snatched away into another realm beyond Edmund's Earth. See, we saw in that Spell scrying cars (and other items) that would be found from an Earth (or a near Earth) haling from the later half of the 20th century, and not the middle part of it. Might be wrong, but I have seen enough of Earth to be certain enough.

So, with all that in mind, you can see our choices were few and sparse. Makes choicing easy.

Ah, so it's back into the woods, avoiding the various evil army patrols and through the wardrobe into another realm . . . .

And then after getting out of a decidedly empty feeling apartment (have to wonder just what it's story is all about), we (in magical disguise to blend in) head out over to the town's insane asylum.

It's night in this world's California, and while Jarlath jokes about how this particular place happens to be just the place from that one movie, Terminator 2, the rest of more than pause just a little bit in surprise when a familiar looking man (with a young teenager in tow) suddenly drives up to the complex's front gate.

Well, see the plan had been to just go a quick and dirty rout of just casting sleep spells left an right (or whatever non-lethal means), grab Jadis and run back to the apartment and then back to Narnia (where that "trial by combat" would happen upon stepping back upon that soil).

"Oh no you don't," Manbear Synizn mutters, casting a sleep spell upon the gate guard before he can challenge the Terminator (who looks exactly like Probe) and get shot in the legs for his troubles. While the man (who smells like a cyborg to Synizn, he tells us later), might not be the actual Terminator it wouldn't be out of character with everything we've seen so far. But all that said, whatever the case, I must admit it makes for a strange sight, seeing the guard snoring standing up like that...

Both figures (who haven't seen us yet), look at the guard and then at each other.

Note: rent Terminator 2 to see exactly what I'm talking about in these next scenes.

"What the Hell?" the young boy mutters, staring at the guard whilst the Terminator (being the rather direct chap he can be), doesn't pause too long to wonder why. His task is clear and if circumstances make it easier for him to do it, he'll not pause one microsecond longer than need to in order to do it.

So, what do we do? Why, we follow them (with a bit of invisibility spells cast quickly) and let THEM be a distraction long enough whilst we find Jadis.....

Well....maybe not quiet...

We let things play along enough to the part in the movie...er....in this situation where the T-1000 shows up. Just as he's slipping through the bars (with his liquid metal body....ending any debate that we're in the middle of yet another unwanted crossover), Jarlath sighs.

"Oh bullsh*t you're going to keep this up," Jarlath mutters, not wanting to leave loose ends undone.

He's not going to let it go any further than this, he tells us later. He casts a spell and the T-1000 freezes in place just as he's trying to pull his pistol through the bars of the gate he'd slipped through (or more like melted through). Must say that the guy looks surprised (as well as his target, Sara, if not the Terminator).

Too robotic in character right now, you see, the Terminator... He did well enough with this first encounter with the more advanced T-1000, but still....

Well, as an aside I had to wonder why after the T-1000 had gotten into the elevator shaft after Connor and friends, he'd not just cut the elevator cables (dropping the humans to their deaths) instead of trying to stab into the elevator cabin to get them....

Nevermind, not important right now...

"Okay, let's get down to business," Jarlath continues, as his invisibility spell fails, addressing those down the hallway. "Is this thing out to kill that kid? This thing I believe is a 'T-1000'? It's target is the one known as John Connor? The one who's supposed to be a great military leader after Skynet sets off a nuclear war?"

Connor, looking open mouthed at the others, blinks and answers almost dumbly: "Uh, yes."

"Right," Manbear Synizn growls, dropping his invisibility as well and them muttering a spell.

Even the Terminator blinks in surprise at what happens next as the T- 1000....screams as Synizn disintegrates it! Then, gruffly the manbear tells the Connors and the Terminator that this assassin might not be the only one out there....

"Tiamat's blood," he sighs after finally getting them to hurry off, reminding them that the police would soon be here. "We don't have TIME for this."

He then reachs down and was going to slap Silberman (Sarah Connor's psychologist during her stay in this complex) awake. He'd fainted, having seen the T-1000 slipping through the bars. We needed to get the place where Jadis had been stashed.

"Let me," Alicia 4 says softly. "Please?"

She has a softer touch (and after what Silberman has gone through he's probably near the brink of insanity having seen all this, really). A soft touch was needed. So while in a human seeming...

  1. "Where is Jadis?" she asks softly to Silberman.
