"You mean the woman who claims that she's a witch and who reckons that California ought to be covered in snow?" Silberman asks. After what he's seen, he has decided that it would be wiser to co-operate with us, it seems. He points down a corridor. "She's in the third room on the left."

Since on this particular Earth Jadis's magic doesn't work but our magic works just fine, it's easy enough for us to break into the room where she's being held, cast a sleep spell on her to prevent her from being awkward, and get her back to Narnia.

Then we bring her round and explain the deal to her. Either she agrees to take part in this magical single combat with Jarlath, or we will kill her. We Champions have got enough magical fire-power when all our magic users are added together to be fairly confident that we can carry out our threat. The combat will be to the death. If she wins, then we have Winifred's agreement, reluctant though it is, that Jadis shall be set free and allowed to return to her own troops. We have chosen Jarlath, as the only human mage in our party. Otherwise Jadis might claim that combat against a non-human opponent would be unfair.

Even as we parley with her, we can feel the temperature dropping. Her return has meant that winter is beginning to set in again. We hope that her return will also mean that Aslan will start to recover, but we don't have any news on that yet.
