As it turns out, he's going to be the object needed for a special kind of spell. A spell of tracking, as it turns out the spell is.

Ideally for this spell to work, an inanimate personal object that had been recently handled by the target would be the thing. However, in a pinch (though much more taxing) the spell could work using the last person to deal with Jadis, and that came down to Edmund!

Or rather, a locket of Edmund's hair.

As the mages chant, casting the spell, the hair on the back of Edmund's neck (as well as the other children) stood on end. A wavering picture forms, first of the wardrobe's doorway that is VERY familiar to some (like Edmund and the other kids), then a flash of a building that was as inviting as the KGB Headquarters, despite the weather being bright and sunny....
