To the Nearest Village

The Black Void - Episode 672

"Well then, let's be going." Said Amergin

"Thank you" she said. Normally, she would have thought about this before answering, but so much had happened in so little time that she was aching for a place she rest and make sense of this situation.

They walked through the forest at a mild pace, going about one parthon per every 45 minutes. As Amergin led her through the forest, she wondered how he knew which direction was which. She decided to save the question for later, knowing asking it now would simply slow them down. She’d had to admit, although Amergin failed as a musician, he did quite well as a traveler. Never once during the journey did he show any signs of weakness, fatigue, or tiredness. She’d wished she could say the same about herself. Unfortunately, after their journey, she realized that the only thing she could say about herself was that she needed to get out more. Her lack of stamina stuck out like black in white. Near the end of the journey's first parthon, she’d already begun to fall behind, forcing Amergin to (patiently) wait up for her.

The sun was beginning to set during the last parthon of their journey. At this point, Sarah was following the bard only half-awake; in a daze one might call it. The forest around her was becoming more of a blur and fuzz by the minute. Only Amergin’s guidance kept her from going off the trail completely.

Darkness had completely shrouded the vast sky by the time they reached the village. Although it hadn’t been night for long in this world, Sarah felt as though the darkness had been there for days, taunting her as she traveled exhaustedly, just daring her to close her eyes and let drowsiness overcome her.

Sarah followed Amergin into a small inn at the edge of the village. Amergin strolled over to the counter and began ordering a room. Sarah glanced around her surroundings lazily. Several oak wooden tables lied near a blazing orange fire by a corner next to the entrance. Although the area appeared to be abandon at the moment, it showed signs of heavy usage. Opposite of the tables were a line of strong door that she guessed was where she’d be lounging. Over the head of the entrance were several were several wooded shields holding animal heads as trophies. While she faintly could recall one or two of the animals (One was an Elk), most of them look unfamiliar and gave her the chills.

She was just beginning to notice something peculiar about one of the doors on the walls when Amergin called her name. He led her up a flight of stairs behind the counter, through a long, narrow, wooden-paved hallway, and into a dark, damp, dusty, room. Although it was only fit for a person or two, it was perfectly comfy. A two person bed, a small dresser with a bowl of water on top, a jar holding an glowing insect who’s light lit up the whole room, and a small closet were just about all the room had to offer.

”Thank you” said Sarah, giving Amergin a small kiss on the cheeks. “I don’t know how to repay you”

”Nothing will be necessary m’lady elf”

Sarah crawled under the warm, wool, covers, sealed her eyelids, and felt her consciousness fading away almost immediately. The last thing she heard was the pound of Amergin’s footsteps against the thick wooden floors as he left the room.

  1. When she wakes up, Amergin has left.
  2. When she wakes up, Amergin is still at the inn with her.
