Duncan and the Cave-men

Duncan surveys the scene around him. It appears to be about mid-day, and the sun beats down upon everything. He seems to be in a large, tree filled valley. Nearby is the gaping mouth of a cave, where a group of short, heavily built people sit and stare at him with very startled looks on their faces.

Duncan approaches them. "Hey there," he says in that all-too-casual manner of his that so infuriates his many colleagues.

A few of the cave-men recover from the shock of seeing a man appear in their territory seemingly out of nowhere. They pick up rocks and fling them at this mysterious intruder, shrieking. The rest of the cave-people follow suit.

"Woah! Jeez, no need to throw stuff! I just wanted to talk!" yells Duncan while lifting his arms to protect his face from the rain of stones. He mutters a quick spell to conjure up an invisible barrier between him and the flying rocks.

The cave-people look confused when they see their projectiles bouncing back off of seemingly nothing. Several of them brandish clubs, and run out of the cave towards Duncan. Duncan chuckles at the comical appearance of the big, hairy brutes smacking face-first into his unseen protection and collapsing on the ground.

"Stupid creatures," he mutters to himself, "Can't recognize a simple Air-Wall when they see one."

Duncan begins to ponder where he could have ended up. These hairy people are obviously very uneducated. Even the youngest child in Groydon would have realized he was using magic to protect himself, and that any effort to attack him just then would have been futile. Actually, the youngest child anywhere would have realized that. That scroll must have sent him backwards through time, to before magic was discovered. He looks at the crude clothing made from animal skins that the hairy cave-dwellers wear. He must have gone far back indeed.

Duncan ponders his next move. He was a necromancer, not a chronomancer, so travelling through time would be too difficult/risky for him to attempt without some idea of exactly when this is.

1. He can try to smooth things out between himself and the cave-people. If he could learn when this is from them, he could get home. . .
2. He can go explore, and maybe figure out when this is along the way
