An encounter with a wolf

He comes to a creek that has clear flowing water. Duncan conjures a glass and uses it to scoop the cool water and drinks it. "Aaaah, refreshing," he says. Duncan decides to follow the creek. It opens into a small clearing surrounded by trees. Inside the clearing is a large wolf which immediately bares its teeth and growls.

"Hello there, boy," says Duncan, talking to the wolf as if it was his own dog.

The wolf continues growling and moves towards Duncan.

"Attaboy," says Duncan reaching out his hand to pat the wolf on the head. However the wolf, who has never been patted on the head before, bites Duncan's outstretched hand and tries to rip it off Duncan's arm.

"Ouch!" says Duncan. "Bad boy!" With his free hand, he casts a rolled up newspaper which proceeds to smack the wolf causing the wolf to yelp, letting go of Duncan's bloody hand.

"This isn't working out," says Duncan as the wolf attacks the newspaper that is hoving in mid-air. The newspaper, having done its job vanishes into thin air.

Duncan conjures another spell to restore his badly injured hand back to pristine condition. What does he do next?

1. Duncan tames the wolf with a spell or two.
2. Duncan continues to proceed along the creek on foot hoping to find out when and where he is.
3. Duncan conjures a canoe that would allow him to float downstream.
