Hours later they emerged from a small outcropping of rock in the forest.
Night had fallen and the twilight stars illuminated the clearing in an
eerie purple glow. "We did it!" Amergin exclaimed, "We have survived,
m'lady elf, as I always knew we would." "Indeed," Sarah said, covering herself slightly out of modesty. "But what are we to do now?" Amergin glanced at her and said as if reading her thoughts. "Perhaps it would have been wise to divest the evil wizard of his raiments before proceeding. But! that would have made us thieves like a certain small churl I may name. Why, if I see that bastodian again, I wont show any mercy this time." "Enough, Amergin," Sara said poutily. "It grieves me to see your kind heart so marred by inveterate rage." Amergin slapped his forehead. "Right you are, m'lady elf! To your noble ears I must sound like some manner of violent ruffian concerned with inflicting bodily harm. I shall ensure to restrain such tendencies within myself for as long as we travel together. But verily, now that we are free, the question at hand is the manner of clothing ourselves! Lest we be seen prancing about in the stark like our ancestors in the days of old." "And food," Sarah said. She took a step and almost fell down, her head spinning. She wondered why she was speaking old-sounding-english. It must be her lengthy exposure to Amergin's florid manner of speech. "We have not had nourishment in many days." "Let us proceed. We must not tarry here, lest the wizard awakens and pursues us with harmful intent, or the kender return to finish the job and strip the very flesh from our bones. I shall guide us by the stars, my experience as a vagabond and troubador will aid our return to civilization. Verily, all of Middle Earth is my stomping ground, so fear not, m'lady elf!"
