The water soon dissolves the mud and before long you are tolerably clean.
You then swim for about five minutes in the hope that the vigorous
exercise will warm you up a little.
Next you want to wash your clothes as best you can, though you suspect
that the velvet of your dress will be much harder to get clean than your
skin was. The heavy material will also take a long time to dry
afterwards, but that can't be helped.
You swim back towards the point on the bank where you left your
clothes.

Then you set to work on washing them.

But before you can reach the spot someone appears on the bank. "Hey you," he yells. "Don't you know that this is private property?"

But your clothes have disappeared! Why would anyone take them?

Not having had any food or water since you escaped from the palace, you are hungry and thirsty. The water of the lake looks very clean, so you take the slight risk of drinking from it before setting to work on your clothes.

Before you can return to your starting point, you hear a loud splash somewhere to your left, shortly followed by a similar one to the right. Uh oh.
