She was born a farmer's daughter, with no hint of magical ability. She became a neighboring farmer's wife at age 16, and became a mother (of twins!) at the age of 18. It was around this time when the troubles began. An evil wizard named Sigmund, leader of a cult of magic-users called the Disciples of Kannori (He being the Dorian God of Chaos and Destruction) launched a coup against the King and High Council of Sages. Many were killed in the early fighting, and the Disciples soon held power in the capital and several other cities. They marched outward from there, with a goal no less than the complete conquest of Doria, then the world at large, threatening to break the kingdom's thousand-year, self-imposed seculsion from their non-magical neighbors in a most violent fashion.... Naomi's family was one of many to be caught up in the war. Her farm was overrun and pillaged, her entire family taken prisoner. Her husband and father were pressed into service in the dark lord's army, where they would later meet thier deaths. Her children were taken, to where she did not know. She found herself a brothel slave. At some point, a year or so into her captivity her latent powers began to awaken, and she killed her captors and escaped.... Eventually, she made her way to the city of King's Crossing, or as it was known at the time, the Last Free City. Its strategic location and strong walls made it a hard target for the Dark Lord's forces. A handful of Sages and military leaders, who had survived the original purge, had made the city their capital. Naomi's magical gifts were immediately recognized by the sage Sygarias. She was enrolled into the academy by age 20, and immediately became the top pupil. Her charm, good nature and exceptional talent endeared her to both the sages and students alike. She was incredibly driven and determined to end the war and avenge her family. Her greatest skills lay in water and ice based elemental magic, healing arts, and the manipulation of time. At an incredibly young age, 25, she mastered the hidden art which all but halted her physical aging. Upon graduating to this high level of skill, Naomi, along with her former mentor Sygarias, left the acadamey to aid in the war effort. It was at this point that two other noteworthy heroes came upon the scene. Captain Maximillian of the Dragon Cavalry, and the infantry commander (later General) Godfrey. Through thier efforts, the tide of the war turned. Naomi herself was decisive to the outcome of several key battles, usually by besting the Disciples of Kannori who were leading the enemy. The war raged on for five more years. Finally, the dark forces were defeated and besiged in the capital. The four heroes entered and did battle with the Dark Lord Sigmund himself. While Sygarias lost his life in this battle, the final result was a victory. Sigmund was killed, the power of his cult broken forever. Post-war, the heroes went their separate ways. While Maximillian and Godfrey both took roles in the new government (which did away with the monarchy), Naomi traveled all across Doria, using her magic to restore burned-out fields and heal the wounded and those who had suffered under the Dark Lord's 10-year reign of terror. It was during this time of recovery that she touched so many lives, and went from war hero to living legend. I close the book in amazement. According to the dates in the book, and going by what I've learned of the calender here, the civil war ended twenty years ago. Naomi, if she is still alive, would be almost 50 years old (chronologically), but due to her magic would look much younger.
