Teran hails the barge captain, and after a brief converstation, and the
changing of some coin, we are allowed onto the boat. There's little room,
as most of the space is taken by cargo. But we soon find a comfortable
enough spot to sit.
The barge floats lazily down the river, pulled by the mule. It's not altogether unpleasant, and certainly smoother than the carriage. Moula digs into the small bag that she took with her from Scarlet's, and produces the triktrak playing board. We spend the rest of the afternoon playing and chatting, minimizing the boredom, and taking my mind off our predicament for a while. John spends most of his time talking to the captain, or just watching us with a bemused expression on his face. Teran settles down for a nap. As the sun sets, the barge comes to a stop at a small dock. I notice a single building, perhaps an inn or tavern, attached to the dock. "This here's the Valiant. It's where we'll be spending the night. A popular stop for us river-traders. It's a ways off from the nearest town, maybe twenty miles or so. I'll be leavin' first thing tomorrow. Make sure yer up early if ya be wantin' to continue on to Windhaven." "We'll do that, thanks." John says. "Well then, shall we inquire as to lodgings?"
