"No, nothing's wrong. It's just, um - they don't call him Teran the Quick for nothing." I say with a wink. Scarlet giggles "Oh, I see. Very well, carry on then." She proceeds upstairs. About ten seconds later, Teran finally gets what I was implying, and turns a brighter shade of red than I would have thought possible. "Why, lass, that's just...I've got pride...ugh! And to the Madam herself no less! Think what it'll do to my reputation!" he stammers. "Oh, please, you'll get over it." I nudge him playfully in the arm. "I had to say something, or she'd have gotten suspicious. Besides, it's not like you'll be welcome here ever again, if you manage to break me out." He begrudgingly accepts that logic. We make it back to my room and wake John, who yawns and rolls over sleepily. "Hey sweetie, I was just dreaming of - huh, Teran, what are you doing here? I don't want part in any threesomes, unless it's Nicky and another girl!" he says, sitting up. "There's no time for that tonight, love." I say wryly. Together with Teran, I lay out the situation. John is quite surprised to learn that Teran and I had known each other previously, and that my unborn child is the progeny of a Laralian noble, not some anonymous punter. "Nicky, I had no idea...why didn't you ever tell me?" "Sorry, John. I just couldn't get too close. You're, you know, a client." "Not after tonight. We're getting you out of here, and then I expect to hear the full story. Teran, you go hire the carriage. Take my coin pouch. Meet us in the lobby in half an hour. Be quick!" John's last words cause Teran to mutter something under his breath as he heads out the door.
