Asking for Help

The Black Void - Episode 3226

Teran's expression of surprise is so comical I can't help but smile despite the situation. His eyebrows shoot to the top of his forehead, his good eye bulging, and his mouth hanging open in slack-jawed wonderment. "Hari!? Is it really you? What the hell happened?" "It's like this..." I begin.

I proceed to explain to Teran how I got myself into this. I recount for him my escape from Artazia, my dalliance with Don and the pregnancy that resulted, and learning of his betrothal, which led to my estrangement from him. I then go over what happened to me when I arrived in Theras, working for the Ministry against Gustav, which eventually landed me here at Madam Scarlet's. By the time I finish, Teran's shocked expression has changed to a rather grim one.

"I'm sorry that happened to you, lass. I knew you'd escaped Artazia. After those bounty hunters came after us [2507], I was injured and had to hide for a while. While I was recovering, I learned about Maris' death, and that you'd made it out of the city safely. I was glad for it. To see you end up in a place like this, after all that..." and to think, John's been going on for weeks about how great this Nicky girl at the brothel was, and all along it was really you? Unbelievable!"

"Teran, I need help." I say. "I've gotten used to this life, moreso than I ever wanted to, or even thought possible. But, I need to escape! If I don't, they're going to take my baby away from me!"

  1. He stands up with clenched fists and a determined look in his eye. "All right, Harry. Let's wake John, and we'll bust you out of here right now!"
  2. "Look, I'm a mercenary. If you want help, then you'll have to pay. I don't do charity work." What's happened to him since I saw him last, to make him so callous?
  3. "As much as this will hurt to tell you, Gustav's my employer, and he pays well. I can't risk him finding out I had a hand in your escape. I'm already persona non grata in Artazed thanks to the last job. I can't jeopardize my business in Theras too"
  4. "I'll send a letter to Castle Freydair. They're nobles, surely they'll be abe to get you out of this!" I didn't want Don to find out about this, but perhaps it's for the best. He deserves to know about the child, and it was wrong of me to keep it from him
