You screw up your courage, telling yourself that you are being silly. You
have no reason to think that the man might be hostile. His tank probably
contains nothing more deadly than liquid insecticide for use on the
flowers. Surely the worst that could happen is that you get thrown out of
the building for trespassing? As well as getting help for your knee, you
also want to get to the bottom of the mystery of how a seemingly dead and
mutilated man could now appear to be alive and whole. After all, you
are supposed to be an investigator, and here is something crying
out to be investigated.
"Excuse me," you say. "I wonder if you can help me." The man jumps a couple of inches in the air, obviously startled. Then he whirls round to face you.
