Duncan Takes a Nap

The Black Void - Episode 231

Duncan stretches and yawns. He's had a long day. It couldn't hurt to take a short nap. With a few elaborate waves of the arms, Duncan weaves a large hammock out of seemingly nothing and hangs it between two trees. He decides against leaving the Air-Wall up since the cooking bear is on his side, and he wants to attract the cave-men to the bear. He makes the wall disappear with a small wave of his hand. He then lays down on the hammock and dozes off.

Duncan is awakened to the sound of panicky shrieking, and one of the cave-people violently pounding on Duncan's belly. "Hey!" he shouts at the cave-man who had been doing it, "I'm trying to get a little rest here, so- " He then notices why the cave-man was trying to get his attention, and why his companions were panicking. One of the cave-men was on fire.

"Oh, god. You guys must have brains the size of a peanut or something," says Duncan as he lifts himself out of the hammock, which promptly disappears. The fire must have provoked the curiosity of the stupid cave-dweller. He waves his arms and shouts something over the sounds of the cave-dwellers shrieks, and a wave of water splashes from nowhere onto the flaming Neanderthal.

Duncan grins. He has always prided himself in his ability to handle water, though it isn't his branch of expertise. Most of the cave-men have calmed down, now, and half of them look around, confusedly. The other half's (including the cave-man who was ablaze) eyes rest solely on Duncan.

Duncan walks over to where the bear was cooking. The water he conjured up had put out the cooking fire, but the meat looks like it was about done anyways. Ripping a large piece off with his hands, Duncan sits down on the ground and takes a big bite. Some of the cave-people cautiously approach the cooked meat, and then do the same as Duncan. The rest follow suit, and soon Duncan is part of a big circle of cave-dwellers feasting on roast bear.

Looks like I've gained their trust, thinks Duncan happily.

After the meal is over, Duncan finds himself considering his next move. The day is drawing to a close and the cave-people don't seem to be able to help him get home in any way. Perhaps he should just relax for the rest of the day and sleep with the cave-dwellers in their cave during the night. He'll figure out what to do the next day. But then again, time is money, so maybe he should go out and explore now and camp somewhere tonight. And hey, if things turn out to be nasty out there, he can always return to the cave for safety.

  1. Duncan stays with the cave-people the rest of the day
  2. Duncan goes out to explore
