The Assassin

The figure holding the candle and knife freezes, apparently counting on the element of surprise. The Sultan groggily opens his eyes and sees the threat. Before he has a chance to compose himself, or even get dressed, the figure drops the candle and lunges at him with the dagger.

I jump out of the bed, taking the bedsheet which is currently my only covering with me. The assasin's first strike cuts the Sultan's arm, but he is now fully awake, and fighting back. I race to the main door, which is locked, and call out for the guards. No one answers. Perhaps they've been taken out already? How else could he have gotten into this room?

I turn back to to where the sultan and his masked, black-robed assailant are grappling.

1. The assassin knocks the sultan to the ground and stabs him through the heart..
2. The sultan knocks the assassin to the floor. Just then, the alternate door from the harem bursts open. Munaf and several guards enter and quickly surround him.
3. I decide to take matters into my own hands. I pick up a heavy clay pitcher and hurl it at the assassin.
