"Do you?" I reply. "Well I'm afraid I'm not one of them. I'm plain Harriet
Rogers. But please call me Harry - everybody does. And you would be?"
"Sir Donald de Freydair, My Lady - I mean Harry. Please call me Don. I might mention that you are certainly the most attractive Harry that I have ever encountered." "Thank you, Don. I'm very grateful to you for saving my life, but I'm a little surprised at running into a knight in full armour in the year 2006. You seem to be rather an anachronism." "2006? What do you mean? This is the year of Our Lord 1073." I look at him in astonishment. Not many hours ago I was flying a plane. I certainly wasn't in 1073AD then. I don't think that I'm suffering from delusions, so what can be the explanation? One possibility, I suppose, is that my rescuer is a total fruitcake, but I find that hard to believe. He used his sword too expertly to be other than a genuine knight. When I swam across the river, did I somehow enter another reality? I recall that something like that has already happened to me once. But this time, unlike with the Black Void, there was nothing to alert me to the fact that something odd was happening. "1073?" I say. "All right. So where is this place?" "Are you saying that you don't know when or where you are?" "That's right. Something seems to have transported me away from my own world, into another time and place." I expect him to baulk at that. Instead, his response is a surprising one. "You must have been the victim of an exceedingly powerful spell, then." "I suppose that's as good an explanation as any. So, where am I?" "In a remote region of the kingdom of Laralia."
