The Black Book

The Black Void - Episode 2029

Don looks a little sheepishly at me, like he's embarrassed at what he has to say. "Actually... it's a quest. Well, kind of. More of a treasure hunt, I suppose." I'm intrigued at this. "What kind of a quest?" Don sighs. He gestures for me to sit down on a nearby rock. "I heard a tale once, in a history of Laralia. Many years ago, the evil sorcerer Kradar Bitterwind wrote a book in his tower of magic. This book contained all the spells he knew, which was more than anyone in Laralia, possibly in the world. This included his black magic, because Kradar had been corrupted by pure evil." "And then, just after the book was finished, the Laralian army laid siege to the tower. Eventually, the ten High Priests broke into his sanctum. Kradar was slain with his own demon sword, Tharnos. In fact... it was my great-grandfather that did so." So, Don has a little bit of family history to his name. He continues, "Using Kradar's artifacts left a mark on the old man, and it nearly killed him. Before he died, my great- grandfather tried to destroy them, but he could not. Instead, he simply hid them in places where no men dare to go. His sword, his staff of magic, and the Black Tome have lain there for thousands of years." "But now, there are rumors that a band of mercenaries is hunting for the Black Tome. They care not for the magic, only for power, for Kradar wrote in his book the secret of travel between different periods of history and even to other planes of existence. If they find that secret, who knows what the Artazians might accomplish?" He finishes, "That is my quest. My father Lord de Freydayir is sending me after this band of mercenaries, to see if I am able to defeat them and stop the Black Tome from ever being used again." I don't know what to say. The idea of there being a book like this with all that evil magic inside is impossible. Things like that don't exist back home (duh). But still, Don's alone, and who knows what they could do with him? Then again, these mercenaries sound dangerous... What do I do?

  1. I decide that Don might need some help and say, "Don... may I join you on your quest?"
  2. I consider my own life to be more important, and say, "Don, I'm sorry, but I have to leave now. If I stay with you who knows what the book'll do to you or me?"
  3. I want to get back home and think the secret of the black void may be inside the book, and I decide to go with Don.
  4. The band of mercenaries shows up.
