"Does the term 'Black Void' mean anything to you?" the alien says in reply
to your question.
You think of pointing out that it is considered rude where you come from to respond to a question with another question, but you think better of it. "No." "Our scientists hypothesise that the Black Void is something - a place if you like, though that isn't really an apt term - outside of space and time as we know them. If a wormhole opens up into it from our reality, and someone enters that wormhole, then they could emerge almost instantaneously anywhere in space and time. If that is what happened to you, and Cathy Davidson's 'swirling blue and yellow thing' certainly fits the description of such a wormhole, then you were extremely lucky to emerge somewhere where there was a breathable atmosphere." "Presumably no-one could predict in advance when and where such a wormhole would appear?" "No. And it wouldn't remain in one spot for very long." "That's very peculiar. You see, the wormhole was in a room normally kept padlocked, and had a Do not enter sign outside. On this one occasion, though, it wasn't padlocked, and I couldn't resist looking inside." "So you think that the wormhole must have been in that room for long enough for someone to have put protective measures in place? "Well, it certainly looks that way."
