I decide that waiting till dusk will be the better option. Even if they
sent a search plane out, and it managed to find me, they would still have
to send people in on foot to capture me. It would take them several hours
to reach this remote spot (discounting the possibility of paratroopers),
by which time I could be well away. I suppose they could use the search
plane to track me once detected, but if I could reach somewhere where I
could get help before the men on the ground could reach me then that
wouldn't do them any good.
Three hours later, I leave the plane behind me as the sun sets. Once during those three hours I thought that I could hear a plane in the distance, but luckily it never came within sight. Now that dusk is falling, they will never find me. There's an almost full moon, which will help me to see where I'm going and read my compass. Yes, I have the flashlight, but I don't want to have to use it too much for fear of running down the battery. It is still quite warm, though I imagine that the temperature may fall off quite quickly. I take off my shoes, since they would quickly fill with sand, and put them in the bag with the emergency kit. I also remove my tights, so as to get a better grip with my feet, and put them in the bag as well. Then I set off.
