In spite of what he had just witnessed with the light being unable to penetrate this darkness, Jacques was still in denial that something was wrong. He was a rational man and a skeptic. It was him, with his stories, that terrified the superstitious and ignorant, not the other way around. He was going to put an end to this. He was going to go into his house and prove that nothing was wrong. After all, there was a scientific explanation for everything...or that's what he kept telling himself. He took a deep breath and climbed up over the window into the darkness.
He immediately regretted it. Once his whole body crossed over into the dark, he could no longer see anything. It was as if he had gone completely blind, without a hint of light having ever existed. Jacque’s heart jolted and he tried to reach back to where the window was but tripped and fell down on his side. He scurried up and groped around for where he thought the window was, but he couldn’t find it anymore. Either the fall had disoriented him and left him stumbling in the wrong direction or it was simply no longer there. He groped for one the walls, hoping to follow it to the window or anywhere else, but he couldn’t come in contact with anything physical, minus whatever he was walking on...and even that felt strange and unnatural, in spite of being solid.The rational and skeptical thoughts were the furthest thing from his mind and instead replaced with a pure animal-like terror. The darkness had immediately felt heavier than regular darkness but the longer he stayed in there, the heavier it felt. It was now feeling heavy, hot, and sticky: he felt like he was surrounded by blood. He ran. He didn’t worry about running into anything. He needed to escape this. He couldn’t stand anymore of this. All the sudden, he runs out of the darkness. He doesn’t know if he escaped it almost immediately or if he was stuck there a long time, but he is just relieved to have escaped.
