As the sun set, Fred began to feel weary. They had hiked through secluded forest trails for most of the afternoon and evening, stopping only to eat some rations Belboz had been carrying with him. As they continued down the trail, Fred noticed that Belboz's pace hadn't slowed at all. "Why are you not tired like I am?" Fred asked. "Why don't you look in my head and see for yourself?" Belboz asked, without turning around. Fred pretended to yawn, buying him precious seconds he could use to create an explanation. He then said, in a slightly agitated tone: "I need sleep, just the same as you, uh, do not. My abilities are dulled by my tiredness."Belboz replied: "Then I shall tell you: I don't need sleep, because my family knows its craft well. Spellcraft, that is. He reached down the front of his robes, and, without removing it from his neck, pulled out an amulet where Fred could see it. "This family heirloom delays the need to sleep for as long as it is worn." "Delays it?" Fred questioned. "If I were to take it off right now, I would immediately fall into a coma which would last approximately one and a half centuries." Fred figured that the wizard must have artificially lengthened his lifespan, and didn't inquire further. Belboz hid the trinket under his robes again, and they continued walking through the night. When the night was a more than half over, Fred could barely take it anymore. He was about to ask Belboz when they would stop, but then he realized that if he were a true mind reader he would already know. They walked towards their destination, although only one of them knew where it was and the other merely pretended to know...
