Sir James De Somerville

Sir James pondered this development. His real name was Sir James MacLeod of Taralia.The title of de Somerville was an honorary one, after lands that had been given, reluctantly, to James for various brave deeds he had done. After the mysterious disappearance of Lord Fred, he had come, like so many others, to kill the Dragon of the Southern Caves. He suspected that King Emry was starting to think that this quest was totally hopeless, and had sent him off to get rid of him. King Emry had never liked him. Sir James was a member of the people of Taralia, in the north of the Great Kingdom, once a proud and independant nation, but taken over by Allaria and annexed into that nation as part of a united Great Kingdom when the queen of Allaria several centuries ago married the Taralian king, and their son became king of both nations. Although the Taralians and the Allarians were equal by law, the people of Allaria thought of those of Taralia as being a lower class, and so didn't like the idea of a Taralian becoming a major knight. Lord Frederigo D'Honaire, his old friend, had always been there to stand up for him, but now he had disappeared, and James had no supporters in the King's court.

So now, he had taken the Quest to the Dragon's caves, and he was in a distant cave, with an incredibly beautiful woman who had lost her memory. And now, she said she had a quest that was so important that she couldn't be diverted for it, even temporarily, even though she didn't remember what it was. Sir James's sense of chivalry told him that he should help this woman. His sense of duty told him that he had to go on the quest to stop the dragon. On the other hand, he thought, any knight in the kingdom could defeat the Dragon, and he was, as far as he knew, the only knight nearby who could help this woman. ~~And anyway,~~ he thought, ~~Anna is one of the most beautiful woman I have ever met, and I don't want to lose the chance to know her better.~~

~~What am I saying,~~ he thought, ~~her story is so crazy that I don't know if I should trust her. And even if she's right, how do I know she's not married?~~
