Sir James realised that it might be possible to find out if Anna was
married. "Would
you mind taking off the glove on your left hand for a moment?" he asked.
Anna gave
him a puzzled look, but complied. There was no wedding ring on her second
finger; indeed
she wore no rings at all. That was not conclusive, of course, though it
did seem
unlikely that a married woman would go on a quest.
"Look," he said, "I'd love to help you, but unless you can tell me what your quest is I don't see how I can. Surely you must be able to remember something about it?" Anna searched through her memories, which were fine where they didn't relate to her personally but were more general in nature. She came up with one name that didn't seem to fit with any of her other memories. Could it be related to her quest? All she had was the name - nothing else. "Does the name Lucrezia the Damned mean anything to you?" she asked.
