Fred, Astra, and Velus soon heard a strange gurgling sound. Velus was the first to hear this thanks to his enhanced hearing compared to humans and he growled in response to the noise. The gurgling was joined by splashing before they saw a wave of grayish purple liquid approaching them at an incredible pace. They had no time for chit-chat, so they ran for their lives. It didn't seem to matter where, just that it was away from this wave.
The wave strangely had sets of eyes and misshapen mouths. The eyes occasionally popped up and separated from the rest of the mass like bubbles or it fell from curling waves if it had to make a turn. Stranger still, the mouths seemed to be singing, in male voices, an advertising tune for what it was and how it was created. The bass and baritone voices mostly kept the strange beat. "Bow-mow-mow-bow-mow-mow," they bellowed. Soprano (S): "Something bad is coming down" Tenor (T): "Have you heard the news?" Bass (B) (spoken): "Listen up!" T: "Get outside" S and T: "Better run, better hide" All: "Nothing can stop the Smooze!" T (spoken): "You can’t stop me!" S and T: "See the way we slither forth / Spewing gobs of ooze henceforth!" S (spoken): "I love ooze!" T (spoken): "Here we come!" All: "Nothing can stop the Smooze!" B (spoken): "No way!" S and T: "You can’t escape us / You can’t escape us / You haven’t got a chance" B (spoken): "Yeah!" S: "This evil goo is a witch’s brew!" S and T: "No matter what you do / We're gonna get to you / Ooooo! / Anyone who tries to fight / Is guaranteed to lose" B (spoken): "Guaranteed!" S: "You can’t win" T: "You ought to pack it in" All: "Nothing can stop the Smooze!" B (spoken): "Don’t even try!" S and T: "Here comes the Smooze cruisin’ along / Singing our funky, gunky song / Just no way to stop... / Our ooey, gooey glop! Oooh!" S and T: "When it comes to witches brews / Smooze is what you should choose / We won’t stop / Nothing else can top" All: "This unstop- / Pable Smooooze!" If they weren't running for their very lives, our heroes would have applauded such musical talent by a sentient liquid. An evil witch would have said it was morbidly beautiful the way it sucked up anything in its path like low-flying bats and crawling slugs and snails.
