Fred, Astra and Velus were unable to outrun the wave and were overwhelmed by it. But it didn't kill them as they had feared. Instead after a few seconds it passed on, dumping them back on the tunnel floor.
As Astra looked at Fred, she tried to stifle a giggle. The wave had dissolved his armour and underthings, and he was now as naked as she was. "It's not funny," Fred said crossly. "I have lost my pack and its supplies. Even worse, I have lost my sword and dagger. We are now defenceless against any further dangers that we might encounter in these caves or beyond them." "You're right, of course," Astra said. "So what should we do now?" "Find our way out of the caves as quickly as we can, and then make our way to the nearest village in the hope that we can convince them of our identities and that they should equip us. The trouble is that the nearest village might well be several days journey. This is a wild part of the world, and settlements are few and far between."
