Joan Overhears an Interesting Conversation

One voice was a man's, the other a woman's. They appeared to be in an
alcove off the far
end of the hallway in which Joan stood. She couldn't see them from where
she was, but
this was a good thing, since it meant that they wouldn't be able to see
her either. She crept further
down the hall, hoping that she could get close enough to hear what was
being said without
coming into view of the two whisperers.
The first words she heard clearly were from the man: "So you're sure that Lord Fred must be dead by now?"
