The women had already lost too much time in the rock lands, they needed to
cross this river quickly. They surmised that it was shallow enough to
cross and soon their surmise proved to be valid truth! By nightfall they
had pushed their horse another thirty miles or so and they had also come
to a town.
Wilcom to Hogswart said the sign at the gate. The night watchman let the women in and soon they found themselves in an inn. They could not pay for a room, but the horse was in the pens and the women were warm. They stayed for a while in the light and warmth of the inn, listening in on conversations and pushing away men with only one thing on their mind. By second call and fires-out, as most of the townsfolk went to their beds, the two women lay under the open stars, having set up a simple ‘camp’ in the hay-stall outside of the inn. The night passed while one kept watch and the other slept, taking turns as their travels had made them accustomed. The sun finally rose and with it the two women found their horse and were on journey again. Astra had had no new dreams, Anina spoke not of any either. During the night, however, they had discovered that they were in the lands of Bry – a confederation of city-states along the western border of the Great Kingdom. In the four days since heading from Elmeria they had bypassed the Three Kingdoms, traveled through Damen, and now Bry. By nightfall they hoped to be in Zinshara and then Gala, Gana and the Gap. Their journey now took a westerly road, but once south of the Gap they would be able to head due east, towards the Goth mountain range and then home. But they knew they wouldn't be there for at least another five days, if the horse lasted. They were pushing it at twelve hours a day, but time was of the essence if they were to discover the source of their trial, and give aid to Aquilaria before any other madness would strike the land. "Time," mused Astra. "This is the 9th year of Queen Maia, the 9th and not the 25th!" "You have been sent back to us... but you are sure not by this faceless voice, this Master of the Velus-wyrm which sent you to that watery place?" "No, atleast I don't think so. I'm not certain of anything, but why send me to the here and now when it could have killed me? It killed Fred easily enough," said Astra. "As you have told me before during this journey," said Anina. "And all I recall is heading out towards the Alexis Hill for a day’s meditation and then awakening on that... place with sand (she was careful not to say beach for fear it would send Astra into a catatonic fit). No warning, no attack, no nothing." "I'm worried," said Astra. "You worry too much," answered Anina. "You would too if your very existence could disrupt the tapestry of eternity, we’re contemplating a plan that will have us give information of the future to our Queen and one that will have me meet my nine-year-old self!" Anina smiled. "So you will meet your younger self, big deal... according to your memories I will be dead within a year, now that is something to worry about!" "And what of this Dragon? It cannot be the Velus-wyrm, he is dead, but the Allarian said the Dragon attacking Allaria comes from the future." "There have always been many a wyrm willing to eat and grow, this one is simply a greater evil than your average magi draconis, it need not be and cannot be the Dragon you saw die, but you will help kill this one even as the warrior Fred killed the Velus-wyrm."
