They made their way back down the gully and into the pass. There, they
considered
making camp, since Carola had had no sleep at all and the others had had
only a
couple of hours at the start of the night, but as the new day was now
beginning to dawn they decided to
press on.
Before long they reached the highest point of the pass, opening up a vista of the lands on the far side of the mountain. "There's Vaeren's castle", said Belinda, pointing. They could see the castle far below them, a massive edifice of grey stone, standing on a rocky outcrop beside the road. "We should get there before dark," said Matthias. "We'll make better time going downhill." "I think it would be sensible to make camp before we get there, so we can have a good night's sleep before we tangle with the wizard," Belinda said. This was sgreed, and they made camp a couple of miles short of their objective. The night passed uneventfully.
