Beaten by Lightyears

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 93276

Reika

"Oh that small thing?" the Master smiles that damnable smile of his.

Good God, I mean I’m not shaking in my boots here but there is something just a bit unsettling about that smile, about the entire man, really. The man’s a sociopath, albeit one that is MUCH more affable than certain men named Gendo Ikari.

That and . . .Betty and Ragan were right. There is something of a bit of sex appeal to the Master. But that said the phrase “Lights are on but nobody’s home" applies here with the evil man.

Easy to overlook if one is not paying attention, though. We must remain cautious even though we apparently have won him to our cause (for now).

Frankly, I’m as surprised as sister Rei is about her success here, though.

"It all grew out of a realization that I had been frankly taking an overly complex beforehand approach to my lack of any more Regenerations," the villain continues. "Frankly, trying to waylay the Doctor for his Regenerations or worse destroying Galifrey to extend my life through some over the top ploy was just plain stupid!"

"Might as well grow a handlebar mustache to twirl while laughing feindishly at my 'brilliant' schemes," he mutters in disgust to himself, hissing. "I . . .nevermind."

"But you could see why I rather objected to Harris' ill thought out attempt to coup a snook with me," he interjects. "That was uncalled for and even bigoted, I would say!"

So, he's sensitive to being a clone? Must be a stigma against such thing back where he's from? At least in some parts like what we sometimes still run into from time to time? Maybe.

That and perhaps a way to do some 'value added' service for his employer? Garner favors or some such?

"But all that aside, rare but viable cloning technique pioneered on that very Earth I had been contracted eventually to destroy lay the key to my continued survival," he continues, smiling again. "Would have been a shame to let it just die with Earth, really! Reliable, really for a Timelord surprisingly enough, which was a good thing as much less to go wrong than the usual overwrought plans I tended to do I wager you are familiar with? Lucky thing, being that my old body was on it's last legs, looked more like something that should be burried than walking about!"

He then pauses, seeing my sisters muttering something about "The Deadly Assassin" episode.

“A bit of business that I can see from the looks on your faces does not surprise you," he surmises. "Dare say that it would not be a surprise to the Doctor’s present Companions as well? My being on my last Regeneration and all that?"

I and my sisters (except for Yukiko who has yet to be dragged into one of those all nighter Dr. Who marathons) nod our heads slightly in answer.

"Though it appears that some of our information concerning you is incorrect," I add, nodding slightly. “Points like you having access to extending your life through clone technology as well as . . .having obtained that magical item which Rei’s gift, a rare Atlantian artifact, and time travel made and which has silenced those Drums of War."

Drums which was a long and convoluted plot by “his" Doctor (who he said happens to be the Other) instead of Rassilon, as later Doctor Who episodes will have it. Might or might not be true (this IS the Master after all), but in the end for now not important. If he’s trying to draw suspicion upon the Doctor (the one from Terra Prime or the one here and now) . . .

We are NOT turning on “our" Doctor or the one here and now, of course!

"I thought as much," the Master nods sardonically, apparently still not exactly sure what to think about others knowing so much about his private business but opting to just ‘go with it for now. “Cannot have totally perfect knowledge, after all. What with this being an imperfect universe. Or ‘multi-verse" as it were!

"But apparently the good Doctor has not gotten the memo yet if I am to guess why he insistently hounds me for secret motives over me objecting to Mr. Harris’ rude behavior towards you."

The Master frowns as he looks over at the Doctor, who’s still frozen between ticks of the clock.

"Well, if he’s anything like our Doctor then he’d been in a rush to listen much to Betty and Ragan before coming to the VLA to . . .stop your plans and save the day," I say in way of defense. “Haste makes waste and all that."

"Hm, yes indeed," the Master sighs after giving me a look that said I had touch something of a sore point with him. The Doctor always seemed to be there, getting under foot and all that for the poor villain. “He does have a tendency to do that at times."

Coughing slightly, Rei then draws attention to her in an attempt to get somewhat back on track here.

Rei

"I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that somehow your research into Sailor Moon anime has something to do with the cloning technology you are using to extend your life," I ask, seeing a possible connection here with what otherwise would be totally at odds with the Master’s character.

The guy is a villain and a very competent one (albeit on who is insane). Such a almost insulin shock inducing anime is not in his character at all. Doesn’t fit unless he had an agenda to use it (God in Heaven only know how) to get something he wanted desperately.

And . . .he pretty much confirms it.

"Yes indeed," he nods, smiling in an almost condescending fashion as he congratulates me for making that leap of logic. “The facilitator was a rather odd duck who had a tendency to refuse business with customers who did not have a passing knowledge of that magical girl show."

He looks over at the Prince of Earth and Setsuna.

"Dare say the TV show doesn’t do the reality justice," he snorts, shaking his head in sardonic irony. “Odd indeed how some things can come full circle though . . .especially since the cloning technology I use sound disturbingly familiar."

He then looks at me and my sisters with that same sardonic look.

"The liquid filled tank my spare clone bodies are store within sounds rather like this ‘aquarium ’ certain people--who's name shall not be spoken of anymore in polite company--spoke of in passing," the Master observes.

Yes, Xander and this fellow does not at ALL get along with each other. Maybe it is almost a crime against nature to have them anywhere in the same plane of existence. Almost like they'd be fated to comp to blows.

We have GOT to get these two away from each other before they can do something stupid like kill each other!

“Full circles indeed," I say after shoving that morbid line of thought aside for a moment, pretty much confirming the Master's question. “But I wager the memory transfer process afforded Timelords . . ."

Good grief, the Master in much later TV episodes transferred his memories into a fob watch for later reloading in some kind of Rube Goldberg plot to continue existing after that last Time War which destroyed the Time Lord race except him and the Doctor! That beats how my memories (and my sisters memories) got transferred back to US by lightyears! “Defininetly much better than that hack of a doctor Dr. Ritsuko Akagi and her analogs used with you and your sisters!" the Master said, sneering in distain at the crudity (and perhaps heavy handed cruelty) of it all.

  1. Even HE has standards of a sort, it seems. Don't trust him as far as I could throw him, but still he seems to imply he has higher standards. Point for him!
